Crossing boundaries in science teacher education (CROSSNET)

Referència: 129358-CP-1-2006-1-DE-C0MENIUS-C21
A plan has been developed for the improvement of science teacher education in European countries. It arises from an increasing demand for change in science education in a stage of transition in many educational systems in Europe. “Crossing boundaries” is a metaphor used for the development of a framework for new paths of exchange across science and science related subjects, schools and their sub-divisions, and institutions for teacher education, administration and politics in different countries. Within this framework two interrelated work-groups will work on school-based aspects of teacher education, conduct case studies and link the experiences from these aspects in regular meetings and on a virtual platform. Objectives of the project are to document and enhance collaboration across boundaries, to exchange and create opportunities of discourse with teachers and stakeholders for educational innovation, to develop materials and curricular guidelines as output and to evaluate and disseminate outcomes. Main target groups are science teachers, teacher leaders, principals, teacher trainers, researchers and policy makers. A steering committee will be established in order to support and maintain the exchange within and across work-groups with different subtopics and school sets. The project will provide resources and an electronic platform, organize meetings and a symposium in cooperation with European educational research associations and will offer prototypes of innovative approaches for teacher education. Outcomes will be work documents, materials, case studies, a collaborative framework and curricular guidelines for innovative teacher education and recommendations from a European Policy Workshop.
