Characterization and analysis of sound_copia_copia

The workshop aims for students to achieve a greater understanding of sound through its characterization (intensity, tone and timbre), the characterization of sound waves and their associated magnitudes (period, frequency, amplitude and wavelength), as well. such as the recognition of the transfer of energy without the transfer of matter, the fundamental and harmonic sounds and the differences between sound and noise.

The first part analyzes a kinetic-molecular simulation of the displacement of particles when a sound is produced, with the program Wave interference in order to define the concepts of period, frequency, amplitude and length of 'good.

In the second part, through the program Audacity , students will record and analyze different voices and notes of instruments, in order to be able to define the magnitudes that differentiate them (intensity, tone and timbre). Also by comparing sound and noise, they will highlight the characteristic that differentiates them. Although in colloquial language we use the word noise to define unpleasant sounds or that are at a very high volume, in physical language a noise is characterized because it does not have a repeated pattern and instead a sound does.

Then, with tuning forks of different frequencies, complex sounds will be created from the superposition of pure sounds and then the Fourier transform will be used to see that the two main frequencies of the newly generated sound are the frequencies of the two tuning forks.

Finally, the fundamental frequency of an instrument constructed from a test tube with one end open and the other with both ends open is compared.
